My Savanna - Siberian Iris

Siberian Iris

Many of our tall bearded iris gardens have suffered heavy losses from crown rot in recent years due to cold and wet Iowa springs. Siberian irises are rapidly becoming a popular replacement for the TBıs, as they are not susceptible to crown rot or many of the other afflictions common to the bearded varieties. They are beautiful, rugged and easy to grow, with wind resistant foliage, and colors ranging from white to shades of blue, purple, pink, wine red, and recently some light yellows.

They are reliable heavy bloomers when established; a two year plant is not likely to excite, but you will enjoy an impressive clump of bloom the third year and thereafter. When bloom stalks are cut a day or two before opening, they are an excellent choice in arrangements.

After bloom season their foliage remains upright and green, making an attractive accent. Usual peak bloom is the first week of June.
