Go to www.hostalibrary.org for photos of hundreds of hostas! The predominant perennial for the shade, hostas are primarily grown for their foliage, keeping their shape and color throughout the growing season. They are hardy, long-lived, relatively trouble free, and come in many colors and sizes. They grow well in bright or dappled shade, and certain varieties will tolerate some sun if they are kept reasonably moist. Expect blue hostas to look greener in sunny conditions, green hostas to be lighter in color, and gold ones to look brighter. Flower stalks may be removed to encourage foliage growth, and to emphasize the simplistic beauty of the leaves. They combine well with dozens of companion plants, of which we have an extensive selection available. The majority of the 180 varieties of hostas at My Savanna
are field grown and can be dug at most any time during the spring and summer.
Those varieties in plentiful supply will be pre-potted for spring sales.
Unfortunately, it is not always possible to dig during regular business
hours, but we will be happy to have your order ready for pick up within
a day or two. Hostas, like daylilies, transplant well as bare-root divisions.
